MISSION STATEMENT

The John F. Hughes Literature/Magnet School will provide integrative and effective learning opportunities for all students while fostering high expectations and a climate of excellence. The students will be prepared to meet the challenges of the 21st century through cooperative partnership with our school staff, parents and the local community.

BUILDING DESCRIPTION

Hughes Integrative Learning Through Communication Magnet School is located in South Utica. This Elementary building is comprised of 447 students, including 62 ESL students. This diverse student population represents more than 10 spoken languages.

Through a literature-based curriculum and the assistance of computers and other technology, students are introduced to a rich academic and culturally stimulating educational arena through the "Wheel of Knowledge" that emphasizes the following components: Music, Art, Physical Education, Math, History, Language Arts, Computer Technology, Reading, Spelling, Writing, and Science.
