Mr. Kevin Ammann

Degrees and Certifications:

Mr. Kevin Ammann

I am excited to be here in the Utica City School District this year as the elementary band teacher! With a background in French horn and clarinet, as well as experience with various other instruments, I am excited to share my love and knowledge of music with the band students within the district! Though this is only my second year as a public school teacher, I bring with me experience as a private music teacher, teaching assistant, and section leader.

I earned my degree from Long Island University: CW Post, in which I had a large number of positive music experiences and truly developed as a musician. I was in both vocal and instrumental groups - you could find me in at least 5 in a given semester (brass ensemble, wind ensemble, wind symphony, orchestra, vocal jazz, chorus, and chamber singers). Because of this, I am keenly aware of the importance of singing in band, and that is part of my philosophy of teaching - "if you can sing it, you can play it!"

I enjoy music immensely: teaching, performing, and composing. Though I have been in the Utica community only a short time, I have found a welcoming music community. I perform with choral ensembles such as the Hamilton College and Community Masterworks Chorale, Tapestry, and the Grace Church Choir. At Grace Church, I also perform in a handbell choir.  I also play my French horn in community ensembles such as the Gloversville Symphonic Winds and La Banda Rossa; I also enjoy playing horn solos at community events when invited. I love to compose music as a hobby, as well as create arrangements for wind band. I am always seeking to broaden my music horizons, and I love to attend concerts within the area as well.

I am always trying to improve myself as a professional. I am a part of music organizations such as NYSSMA (New York State School Music Association) and OCMEA (Oneida County Music Educators Association). I enjoy attending conferences and meeting others within the world of music from whom I can learn.

Teaching band is a lovely experience, and I enjoy it immensely. I look forward to helping your child do amazing things within the world of music!
