Columbus Elementary School have the honor of adopting a calf from DiNitto Farms

“This will be the second year that the 4th grade students at Columbus Elementary School have the honor of adopting a calf from DiNitto Farms.  This year’s calf is FAYLEEN, a beautiful Holstein who joins her herd of 1200 cows up on Benton Road in Marcy, New York at DiNitto Farms.  Mrs. Terri DiNitto has been amazing bringing this program to our 4th graders.  The program involves students learning more about milking cows, the process of pasteurization, how the milk is shipped and how it ends up in the store for purchase.  The students also learn about farming, the science and technology that goes into planning out crops, the different kinds of farm equipment and what each does and so much more.  Mrs. DiNitto sends videos, does ZOOM calls and in person visits to keep the students updated on Fayleen’s progress and the goings on at the farm!  The students end the year with a visit to DiNitto Farms in June during Farm Fest.  That is when the kids get to see Fayleen again in person and see how much she’s grown!  Farm Fest is an amazing day for students to hear from all different farmers, meet multiple different kinds of animals, see the farm equipment in person, go on a tractor ride through the corn fields, learn about beekeeping, see the drones that are used in crop field placements, and so much more!  We thank Mrs. Terri DiNitto and DiNitto Farms for giving our students this wonderful opportunity!!”
