Field Trip:

MVCC’s thINCubator

Business students at Thomas R. Proctor High School visited MVCC’s thINCubator on Broad Street in Utica. James Willey, Business Advisor and Ryan Miller, Director of the thINCubator spoke to the students about apprenticeships, job shadowing, and how to get a business started. Both speakers gave examples of alternative paths, other than college, that could be taken after graduation. Emphasis was put on the manufacturing field where students can apprentice/job shadow which requires only a couple college courses geared toward a specific job and leading into a career path. This is what we call earn and learn where immediate income is made instead of having college debt. Additionally, helpful tips were given to the students on how to start a business; from thinking of an idea to figuring out target markets, knowing competitors, branding, networking, and more.
